We’re beginning to see huge schools of kings on a regular basis. Anglers have many opportunities for catch and release throughout the day and it’s not uncommon for everyone on the boat to have a king on at once!

Captain DJ just wrapped up a three day trip with the Burns party. They experienced a mix of weather while they were here. The ocean was small enough to fish west of Kruzof and battle the large schools of kings during the first two days, where they easily picked up their limits. The also went offshore for halibut. They caught their halibut, but that limit was overshadowed by the first black cod limit of the year! Numerous boats in the fleet had above average days for black cod – always a nice bonus while halibut fishing. On their third day of the trip, weather pushed boats to inside waters. The group couldn’t be slowed down – they picked up another limit of kings.

The big schools of kings are here and they are hungry! Some captains reported days where their clients couldn’t get their baits to the bottom. So far, the preseason prediction is holding true. It’s a great time to fish Sitka.
