The end of June marks the final day our clients can retain two kings per day. Starting tomorrow, it moves to one per day with six kings annually remaining the same. The June king run produced many multiple fish days for our clients and most brought home their annual limits. Some days were white-hot with many catch and release opportunities. The average size hovered around the 20-pound mark and we only saw a couple fish eclipse the 35-pound mark. Last week we saw our first silver limit of 2014 and hope it’s a good sign for July.

The one that got away!

Captain Phil finished a four-day trip with the Gulden party today. During the four days, their best luck for kings came at The Cape and Point Amelia. Due to a productive afternoon king bite, Captain Phil didn’t spend much time salmon fishing in the mornings. They travelled offshore to catch halibut early before returning to the salmon grounds to fill their limit. During day two, while fishing at the Cape, they had a 40+ pound king on. They got a good visual, but before they could tired it to the boat, it spit the hooks! Captain Phil was able to catch a few shots of it while it thrashed in the water just outside the reach of the net.

The weather has been very comfortable the last few days, but the forecast for this week shows signs of building to six feet, with winds 15-20 knots from the NE Tuesday and south Wednesday.

If you’re not fishing with us, hopefully you’re still getting on the water during this holiday week!

Stay tuned for a slideshow of the great king catches from the month of June!
