IMG_1161The king numbers are increasing with numerous spots along the coast producing fish. Captain Chuck’s latest group, the Bullock’s, fished north during their three days with great success. Other boats in our fleet had similar results fishing south off the Cape.

Chuck’s anglers dominated the Bowl during the trip, catching the majority of their salmon there. They caught them drifting and on anchor – they couldn’t be stopped! In fact, Tina caught two 30-plus-pound salmon there. They were beautiful fish that were well above the average 20-pound fish we’re seeing. They caught the rest of their salmon in inside waters, where the presence of bait and the right tide created the perfect scenario to catch kings a few minutes from the dock! They also caught the largest coho of the year so far – a 10-pounder.

They rounded out their catch with limits of halibut, a few yellow-eye, and slot lingcod. They caught two halibut at the Bowl and the rest were caught offshore.

Another highlight from their trip was seeing orcas on the last day. Luckily, they had most of their salmon before the pod rolled through and disrupted the fishing.

It was a beautiful weekend to be on the ocean. Good fishing, sunny, and flat seas made for early returns to the dock and still a full afternoon to explore Sitka.
