Calm, Gray, and Fishy

By June 13, 2012No Comments

Fishing has ranged from fair to good for kings. Limits have been attained on most days, but it would be hard to call things as good as normal for mid-June when king fishing is a slam dunk. Oddly, we’re finding more consistent king fishing in the afternoon. The routine for our boats is to give kings an early try with results ranging from quick limits, to catching a couple. Then we take advantage of the calm ocean and head offshore where the best halibut fishing has been taking place in the deep deep. How deep? You don’t really want to know but the quality of the halibut and the speed of catching them has been very good most days. Then, it’s back inshore for the afternoon bite. The weather has remained calm much of June, but the temperatures are colder than normal, so for those of you with upcoming trips – add an extra layer. A few cohos (silvers) and pinks are showing up in the catches. Let’s hope this is the vanguard of a rapidly building run.
