Silvers, Silvers, Silvers

By August 10, 2012No Comments

Fishing for silvers (coho) continues to deliver limits on a daily basis for all our fleet. We’re finding big schools of coho feeding over vast shoals of juvenile needlefish. Yesterday we drifted amid calm water with whales working nearby and silvers biting steadily. A few kings were mixed in with the silver show, but that’s been pretty hit or miss. Two of our boats got king limits yesterday, a few of the boats caught a king or two, others got none. Still, with the silver bite so hot and the sizes reaching up to 15 pounds, no one is complaining. It’s my opinion that 2012 will go down as one of the best silver seasons we’ve seen for five or six years. The numbers continue to build and with the amount of feed available, the sizes will continue to increase. Halibut fishing for decent chickens has been fast and easy nearshore. Larger halibut have been readily available offshore. The weather continues with the 2012 trend – cool, gray, and a bit wet, but the ocean remains relatively calm most days with the odd rough, but fishable day mixed in. The sun actually came out yesterday afternoon. August is in fine form with lots of fish landed, lots of bites, and very few slow moments.
