Sitka Fishing Report 8/20: Final Stretch

Captain Tom's Fishing Repor FInal

We are in the final stretch of the 2013 season – only two weeks left of fishing. Some of the signs are here, too. The silvers have started to move into the inside locations in larger numbers to spots like Icy Queen, The Shark Hole and Sinitsin. Silvers are still around in good numbers, with limits being caught daily. The bite isn’t as quick as it was two weeks ago, but the fish are still here. Although the kings are thinning out, each group is managing to get their kings during a three day trip. Most groups have been catching their halibut and other bottom fish while salmon fishing. With so many salmon around, it’s hard to leave a good bite for three hours when you can catch halibut and rockfish dragging bottom at our salmon holes.

The weather continues to amazes us. We were actually surprised to see rain for four consecutive days last week before the sun came out again. The ocean hasn’t flared up yet and we’re hoping it holds off until the end of the season.
