Returning angler Kevin “Broccoli” Richardson and new comers Ben, Makenzie, and Glen completed their fourth and final day of fishing today with Captain David. Their trip got better with everyday on the water. The first day was one of the worst storms of the year, pushing the fleet to calm water – everyone fished the inside waters north of Kruzof. Most of the boats came in with a handful of salmon and rockfish. The second day, weather permitted the group to return to The Cape. The fish were more plentiful south, but not the usual Cape we have grown accustomed to fishing. The group ventured to the North in search of a better salmon bite, with no difference in success. The highlight of day two was a 20-pound silver caught by Makenzie.

Day three, the fishing turned for the better. The group started at the Cape again and caught nine salmon their first drift! Each drift after was productive and they filled their limit by 9 a.m. They went off shore for halibut and quickly picked up four slot fish in 700 feet of water. On the return to the dock, they capped off the day with a limit of rockfish.

Day four was the best day for weather their entire trip, filled with clear, sunny skies. The group returned to the Cape and quickly caught their limit of silvers, with three kings mixed in. The next few days are forecasted for small seas, which makes fishing the Cape comfortable. The silvers are growing quickly – the Richardson party caught two 20-pounders during their trip. It will be exciting to see the monsters that show up in the weeks to come.
