king salmon sitkaOver the past week, the bite has become more consistent. The salmon are feeding aggressively in the time window right before tide change. Most boats that capitalize on their opportunities within that timeframe have come in with their limit of fish.

Our fleet spread out this week – some venturing north and some holding onto the reliable Cape. The weather had a big influence on this decision. Storms rolled through Sitka causing bigger seas with wind and rain. But, luckily it moved quickly leaving at least one day of sun and flat water for our guests.

Those who ventured north witnessed lots of wildlife including humpbacks, orcas, and pesky sea lions. Most groups fished our favorite northern spots along the coast of Kruzof starting at the Shark Hole and moving south.

Captain Chuck’s boat limited on kings and halibut while also boating three slot lingcod. As Deckhand Sarah said, “They also limited on smiles.” A highlight from Chuck’s group was the 28-pound king they landed.

Those at the Cape continued to fish the gravel flat where they caught their salmon and halibut on anchor. It has been a productive morning and afternoon bite. If groups didn’t have their salmon limit by tide change, they went halibut fishing. By the time they returned, the salmon bite turned on again!

Check out these great photos of the fish our anglers caught from the past week!
