I look at times of the salmon season by which species is the cake and which is the icing. June through at least mid-July, kings are typically the main event – the cake. Silvers are the bonus fish – the icing. The first two weeks of July this year, we’ve had a sort of upside down salmon show – more icing than cake.

The silver fishing has been nothing short of spectacular every day. The kings have been a little tougher. Some days they come easy, some days you work hard to get them, and, occasionally, you don’t get them all. The kings are often segregated from the silvers, not mixed in as usual. Regardless of king challenge, the overall salmon action has been fast and nearly endless. The silvers are growing bigger with each week. Halibut fishing has been incredibly quick with limits and good size fish. Our guests have enjoyed a flat calm ocean for nearly two weeks running. A good time is being had by all.
