July 2017 reigns as the calmest month we’ve ever seen in Sitka. We went weeks on end fishing a dead calm ocean and the wind only blew a few days during the month. We pretty much ran all over the ocean at full cruising speed. The fishing from the beginning to the end of the month proved remarkably consistent. It was very good for silvers with limits the rule almost every day. King fishing, normally excellent in July, remained spotty and somewhat random, but many were landed. Halibut fishing was excellent all month, aided by the flat seas providing us the opportunity to fish anywhere we liked. All in all, it was a great month of fishing and fun on the water.
