For all of us at Angling Unlimited, May can’t come soon enough. Long bright spring days replace long dark winter nights. The fishing shifts into gear with an exciting combination of king salmon, halibut, lingcod, and rockfish. The captains and crew are fresh and eager to do what we love doing – taking our guests fishing. The waters are delightfully uncrowded with snow still low on the mountains producing an alpine look at sea level. Fishing in May holds great appeal if for no other reason than you finally can.ally can. That’s a big deal after a long winter of daydreaming about hunting for salmon on the North Pacific.

Added to the excitement of the opening bell, wildlife abounds with humpbacks returning from their tropical journey, eagles perching in all the trees along the shoreline, marauding pods of orcas looking for schools of king salmon, as well as dall’s porpoises and albatross showing up offshore. The bears work the shoreline patches of grass, their first food of spring.

We start the season with Hook It and Cook It, four days of fishing and four nights of instructional fish cookery with Chef Ludger Szmania. We still some great May openings. So, if the long winter, the cold, the gloom, the cabin fever has got you down, give us a call and start looking forward to the long days of May in Sitka.
