Silver fishing got even better throughout last week with the exception of Wednesday when we had a very rough blustery day with lots of rain. Some of the boats managed decent scores amidst what was probably the roughest day of the season. The plus side of the Wednesday blow came the very next days as larger schools of silvers showed up in multiple locations closer to shore. Limits and near limits have been pretty much the rule for the past four days. The silvers have been big and healthy throughout the run, but they got even bigger on Friday with Johnny Wong landing a 20 pounder on Discovery with Captain DJ and Josh McDonald boating a 19 pounder on Skute with Captain Ryan. A fair number of silvers over 15 pounds came aboard all our boats. Silvers of this size are impressive fish – strong fighters, acrobatic, and beautiful. A few kings continue to come in, but even in a good year, the kings fade in numbers by mid-August. Halibut catches remain quick and dependable. Ditto for rockfish.
