“So, what do you recommend we do after getting off the water?”

The magic question that frequently passes through the AU office in the summertime. Well, it just so happens that when it comes to hikes, restaurants, local shops, and sunset views – Sitka has some of the absolute best! Our Sitka Office Manager, Carly, offered to share a few of her and the AU crew’s favorite Sitka spots.

Hikes

Herring Cove to Beaver Lake Trail (moderate, 3.4 miles round trip, approx. 2 hours) is her go to for a great hike. The trailhead is located at the end of Sawmill Creek road – a beautiful 20 minute drive from the lodge. It is a well groomed, maintained trail that gives you the best of both worlds – a waterfall AND mountains! If you have a few hours in the afternoon, this is a must do.

Mosquito Cove Trail (easy/moderate, 1.5 miles round trip, approx.1 hour) is another great option. This trailhead is located right down the road from our lodge. The perfect place to get out and stretch your legs after being out on the water!

Later in the evening, you will want to take a drive up Harbor Mountain to enjoy the beauty of our Sitka sunsets.

Food: The New Places in Town

Some of you may be familiar with the popular pizza stop – “Mean Queen.” They recently opened the doors to a second restaurant located at Totem Square offering a great selection of burgers and sandwiches that will not disappoint! If you want to grab a quick, delicious, bite to eat or eat on the go then the new Pel’meni (Russian Dumpling) restaurant is the best stop for you.

While you’re in the downtown area, consider stopping by the Westmark Hotel for a Mojito.

Ludwig’s is also a great restaurant to dine at. The food is prepared by a 4 star chef that is from the Napa area and her dishes are so delicious! You should make reservations if you can, they fill up quickly!
