Captain Tom's Fishing Report

Sitka Fishing Report: May 29, 2019

By May 29, 2019No Comments

We’ve been fishing two weeks now and can say unequivocally that 2019 is off to a very promising start. We’re finding good numbers of kings in a variety of spots along a wide stretch of the coast. The kings are bigger than the previous few springs with an average weight in the upper teens. Our happy anglers have caught a few pushing the 30-pound mark and many in low to mid 20’s. Halibut fishing has been pretty much slam dunk on the ocean. Rockfish and lingcod are their usual dependable selves and the weather has been about as good as it gets – mostly sunny, often calm, with only one rough day since our start. We’re encouraged as we enter June and the statistical peak of the king run. We still have a few openings, so if kings are your thing, give us a shout.
