Captain Tom's Fishing Report

Sitka Fishing Report: June 10, 2021

The past 5 days have provided a mostly perfect combination of calm seas and excellent fishing. King limits, often caught quickly in the first couple of hours of the morning, have been the rule. We’ve enjoyed a super calm ocean with the exception of some offshore wind on Thursday. This has allowed for halibut trips to the deep water and some blackcod harvest. We even experienced some much welcome sunshine for a few days after a long stretch of grey. Pink salmon have moved onshore and a couple of coho (silvers) were landed. This is way too early to think about targetable numbers of silvers, but one can always hope.

The month of June opened with a couple more challenging days for kings. Most boats got limits, but it took a bit of work. After that, we had a few days of wind and weather, but the kings kept on coming. As things settled on the 5th of June, king fishing just got better and better with early limits for many of the boats through 9th, the time of writing this report. With calm seas, we ventured offshore for excellent halibut action and some good catches of blackcod. The rockfish have become very obliging, the lingcod less so. All in all, June is shaping up quite nicely with substantial schools of kings showing up in more spots and the weather settling into a calm pattern.
