The past week provided a big contrast in weather. June 17-19 delivered mostly calm and dry conditions. We enjoyed the nicest weather day of the season on the 19th with clear skies, dry air, and light winds. The fishing on all three days was excellent for kings, halibut, and rockfish.

The weather changed abruptly to wind and rain on the 20th which made the fishing much tougher. A few boats got their fish, others struggled for half limits. The ocean settled a bit after the blow on the 21st, but three days of orcas feeding in the area where we’d been catching kings made things difficult. So, the past three days were hit or miss – good for some and a bit of a struggle for others – all attributable to weather and orcas eating the kings and driving them off.
