The salmon report for the past four days can be reduced to a headline: Kings Abundant, Coho Scarce. We’re finding kings in all the usual places on the west side of Kruzof Island but despite an abundance of good signs – baitfish, whales, and birds – the coho (silvers) have not made a strong inshore move. We continue believing “any day now,” but the day has yet to come. Offshore catches of halibut and blackcod remain strong. Inshore catches of rockfish remain automatic with enough legal size lingcod to keep people hoping.
