A New Year Brings News From AU!

By January 13, 2022No Comments

As we head into the New Year, we at Angling Unlimited begin to feel the approach of the best time of the year. We look forward to long days, big fish, lots of fun, and visits from all our fishing guests.

Introducing – Gabriell (Bella) Bayerl, Sitka Office Manager

To those who have visited in recent years, Bella needs no introduction. She began with us in 2018 as a hostess and moved on to office manager for the summer of 2021. She recently graduated from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse with a degree in Public Health and Community Health Education. Now that school is over, she needed a full-time job and AU offered her just that. She’ll be running the show on the land side in Sitka over the summer. In the offseason she’ll help with hiring, planning the next season, assisting Kim McCollum with her ever-increasing workload, and whatever else comes up. We know Bella can handle it.

Bella is as pleased as we are about the new opportunity: “When I first started working at Angling Unlimited as a hostess in 2018, I was excited for the change in scenery and the chance to take on a new challenge. I continued to come up each season because my coworkers at AU and the clients who return year after year started to feel like family. My favorite part about the job is being surrounded by people who appreciate the nature and beauty of Alaska just as much as I do.”

New Year, New Boat

As winter moves toward spring, the new AU boat moves from the drawing board to the build phase. We’ve approved the plan and look forward to construction. We’re working on a name for our new boat and will share that when the moment comes. May will find Captain Sarah taking the helm of a shiny new North River.
Also under construction is a new North River owned by Captain Ryan Refshaw. He owned and operated Skute over the past 15 and decided it was time for an upgrade. We’ll be sharing photos of both boats as they progress.

A Recipe Book Refresh

Grace McNamee is busily working on a rewrite of Angling Unlimited’s cookbook that her grandmother Sue put together years ago. She’s happy to hear suggestions on what to include. The new book will be in our office for the coming season. Feel free to send your recipe ideas to chuck@anglingunlimited.com.

In the meantime, Grace shares this Coconut Curry Salmon recipe for your consideration.

A Heads Up on Flights

Alaska Airlines and Delta serve Sitka with daily non-stop and one-stop flights throughout our fishing season. We recommend that you book your flights soon after booking your trip to get the best itinerary and price. When looking at your return flight, if you’re staying in our suites on your last night, consider that Angling Unlimited will need you checked out of your room by 11 AM on your departure day in order to prepare for the incoming guests. Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns about your travel plans.

And be sure to forward Flight info to Kim (kim@anglingunlimited.com) once your tickets are booked!
