Captain Tom's Fishing Report

Sitka Fishing Report, May 27, 2022

We’ve been fishing for about 10 days now beginning with our annual Hook and Cook. The action started out a bit hit or miss with kings – not terribly slow but not consistent. Yet, the trend has been steadily improving. On Wednesday this week, the fishing really lit up for AU boats with large masses of bait, big schools of kings, and limits all around. The kings have been on the smaller side but Tom George, fishing with Captain DJ, landed a beauty that was approaching 30 pounds today.

Halibut action also started slow for better size fish while the small halibut are abundant where we fish salmon. Unfortunately, most are a bit too small for putting in the box. Boats heading offshore are beginning to find good size halibut plus lots of blackcod and pacific cod. We expect the upward trend to continue and will keep you posted.
