Silver numbers continued building nicely since our last report. We had a big blow on Sunday which limited the options of where to fish, but we managed to find a fair number of kings in the Point Amelia area including a 45-pounder, the biggest of the season, caught by Chuck White on Shearwater with Captain Jack Barnick. On Monday, our boats that returned to the Amelia area were unpleasantly surprised to find very few salmon, the aftermath of a large Orca pod that moved through. Our boats that traveled to the Cape Edgecumbe area found solid numbers of silvers and chums, plus an annoying infestation of pinks. On Tuesday, our boats brought in limits or very-near limits of silvers, but kings were a bit hard to come by. Halibut continue to deliver steady and fast action. Lingcod catches were strong the past few days and the rockfish always provide fast fun. The weather has turned to a wet regime in Southeast Alaska with a pattern of 2 or 3 calm days punctuated by a bit of a blow, then back to calm. If you’re tired of sweltering heat, the alternative is alive and well in Sitka.
