The silver run of 2022 remains one of the better runs we’ve seen for this time of the season in recent years. It’s not lights out every day, but the hits far outweigh the misses. As we move into August and the run composition becomes more and more local Southeast Alaska silvers, the action should do nothing but improve for numbers and size. Chum salmon have had an incredible run this summer. These bright ocean chums are hard fighting and very good eating fish. The kings, while not at peak numbers, continue to enter the catch daily and the average size is the best of the season with plenty in the 20’s and a few in the 30’s. Halibut action is fast and predictable near shore in depths of about 250 to 30 feet. Trips offshore for a combination of black cod, pacific cod, and halibut haver been generally excellent, but the halibut sometimes require a bit of patience. Of course, the rockfish continue to be a guaranteed good time and lingcod catches have been solid.
