Silver City
The coho (silver) run of 2022 continues to deliver results as good as we’ve seen for at least a couple of years. Somedays it takes time and patience, others the results come fast and furious, but the outcomes have been predominately positive with limits and near limits much of the time. As expected, the kings grow ever rarer, but the ones we’re getting are good size, including a couple in the mid to upper 30s. On August 19, the Barr fishing party aboard Albatross even managed to “hit for the cycle”, meaning all five species of Pacific salmon – king, silver, chum, sockeye, and pink – were landed. Then we caught a bunch of black cod and nice halibut plus a large salmon shark which we released. Halibut, black cod, pacific cod, lingcod, and rockfish continue make for good fun and wonderful future meals. The weather over the past week brought us much-needed sun and mostly calm seas. Unfortunately, the long-range going forward indicates we’re drifting into an early autumn with wet weather and the occasional blow coming onshore. We’ve got a little over 2 weeks to go and expect to see the biggest silvers of the year coming aboard.
