Captain Chuck’s last day of the 2009 season. Brother in law Jeff Meierhofer did an excellent job deckhanding (the original MN connection to Sitka), while Haze, LaTonya, Thomas and Arthur reeled in the catch. The ocean was flat, whales were breaching, porpoises swarmed the boat, and Haze found the Crown Royal. Let the party begin!…
DetailsLauren joined her grandparents Otis and Betty Clamp on their trip to Sitka. As you can see a good time was had by all.
Capt. Chuck just returned from Idaho where he enjoyed elk hunting with his brother Kevin. As you can see, it was a successful trip.
Stuart Thompson and his boys had a great trip fishing with Capt. Ben and deckhand Nate in late July.
Fishing for Striped Bass has been mostly disappointing this fall for Capt. Tom. He did just recently land this personal best with a fly rod, 43 inches. Nice fish Captain!
Gary Barlow and his party had another successful trip fishing with Captain Ben. The silvers were big and the weather was favorable.
Captain Ben’s toughness was tested as he hoisted this big hally for the camera. They landed this beauty on May 30th. Late May dates are great for landing big Kings, big Halibut, and big Lings.
Kevin Erwert of Seattle caught this nice halibut while fishing in June with Captain Phil. Kevin has been mooching for salmon for many, many years with his Dad and Grandpa, and as Capt. Phil commented, “These guys never miss a bite”! Good job guys!
Eric landed this nice King and several others during the four days in early August fishing with Capt. Chuck. Other highlights of the trip included getting over awesome schools of big silvers near Cape Edgecumbe. The action was frantic, and we were Fired Up to say the least! What a trip!
Dan Cushman found this dandy King salmon in one of his favorite spots near Biorka Island. Jon was happy to help his dad hold it up for the camera. Rick Lawrence and Jules Grele also enjoyed catching fish with the group in mid July.
Long time friends and guests of Angling Unlimited, Lee Mattson and Ed Swanson landed these two nice Kings while fishing with Captain Phil in mid July 2009. Great fish guys!
The Bingham party had a great time fishing with Captain Tom on August 9-11. They enjoyed awesome salmon fishing landed limits of Kings and lots of great silvers!
Tim Nelson, Dale Duchscherer, Jack Scott, and Jim Durkin had a blast fishing with Capt. Ben and Nate last season. As you can see, they were extremely successful. To say that a good time was had by all is a vast understatement. Thanks guys!
King Salmon: The king salmon abundance index, a number derived by complex biological and mathematic inputs, drives our king salmon regulations and doesn’t become available until April. In the meantime, we’re left to read the tea leaves which include near record ocean productivity off Washington, Oregon and British Columbia in the last few years. We…
DetailsSpectacular for Kings: 2009 turned in one of the best king seasons we’ve seen in years. It started with a little scare – the kings were a week late, making our first few days of operating in mid-May on the slow side. Then, the fish showed in force during the last 10 days of the…
DetailsThe 2009 season hit a brief pothole for a few days beginning on July 8. For some reason the bait flushed from the west side of Kruzof Island and the silvers left with it. Most of our boats were able to find enough kings to bring in limits and halibut fishing filled in for the…
DetailsFishing Report July 8, 2009 The red hot king fishing of June 2009 continued through the last 10 days of the month. Limits with plenty of catch and release action were the rule. Silvers have done a here today, gone tomorrow and back again the next day thing through the first week of July, making…
DetailsThe good old days returned to Sitka in the second week of June. The ocean came alive with a massive plankton bloom that kicked the food chain into high gear. Whales numbering in the hundreds worked the fertile waters as did big schools of kings. The Wong group enjoyed three days of excellent king fishing…
DetailsGreat News for 2009: Better king fishing and you can keep them, too. The king salmon abundance index rebounded sharply from the low levels we saw in 2008. That promises faster fishing throughout the season and much better regulations in July and August. In 2009, non-resident anglers can keep one king per day, three per…
DetailsJuly and August: Perception and reality clashed during the heart of the 2008 season. Specifically, the king fishing through much of July and the first half of August was often spectacular. The fish were abundant, large, and close to the surface. That was the reality. The perception of the fishing, after July 15, was altered…
