It was on this day, October 18th, 1867 the Russian flag was lowered, and the stars and stripes were raised right here in Sitka on Castle Hill.  Alaskans everywhere will be celebrating today, especially in Sitka!  For all of us that travel to Alaska to enjoy the most beautiful place on earth, isn’t it great that we don’t have to worry about passports?!
