Storms Can’t Stop the Bite: Sitka’s Silver Action Shines
The silver action continues to pulse from good to excellent. Most of our effort has been on the ocean. Rough weather encouraged some of our groups to explore the protected inside waters on Sunday and Monday where they found limits to near limits of silvers. The boats on the ocean did very well amidst the big seas. The Shark Hole provided good fishing on calmer days but fell off on Monday. We are also finding silvers very close to the dock in Sitka Sound. The run is clearly moving onshore with the rain. We’re still seeing some kings but the numbers are waning.
Halibut fishing remains very dependent on the ocean, but the weather on Monday made getting there a challenge. Decent but less reliable halibut action has been found on the calmer inside water. Blackcod has been a no-go due to weather and the distance from shore. Rockfish, including yelloweye which are currently open, always deliver a smile.
The rough seas, strong winds, and hard rain are forecast to end early this week.
