This dead humpback whale was found miles off shore, while halibut fishing. The whale appears to have died from natural causes as there aren't any signs of wounds or entanglement. The absence of birds or predators indicates that the mamal died somewhat recently. The whale is upside down in the water with the swollen stomach (due to the build up of gases) keeping it afloat. It is impossible to age this whale by sight alone, one simple way to tell the age of a humpback whale is by its earwax!
