The Best Silver Run in 20 years
In case anyone is worried that the good days are all gone – please stop. Late June, early July and running up to the moment in the second week of August is unequivocally the most outlandishly white hot silver fishing we’ve ever seen! Limits by 8 or 9 a.m. every day, silvers up to 18 pounds so far, lots of fish in the 10 to 15 pound class, good numbers of kings mixed in, all day biting – the list goes on.
And in the last week we’ve run into an amazing problem. We can’t get a bait to the bottom to catch halibut at times because the silvers eat whatever we send down. And, when we get a bait to the bottom, they pick it up right out of the sand. We’re not talking herring baits, we’re talking things like guts from other silvers, strips of pink salmon, and artificial baits like Berkley Gulp.
The word from Alaska Department of Fish and Game is this is the biggest run since 1994, which was a record year. I remember 1994 well and it was excellent – but from a sport fishing perspective – 2013 is even better.
We have a precious few openings left this August so if you get the urge – give us a call. We are also running a September Special – 20% off your trip during September. With the fishing white hot and Alaska Air running their Fall Sale, this is a can’t miss time to fish in Sitka. The good old days are right here, right now.
