Captain Sarah Levar was born in 1988 to Steve and Diane Levar in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. She grew up in northern Minnesota, spending long summer days at the family cabin on the shores of Burntside Lake. There her love of the outdoors and fishing began. She holds a masters degree in Occupational Therapy from the College of St Scholastica in Duluth.
Sarah followed her love of the outdoors to Sitka, Alaska in 2012 taking a job with Angling Unlimited as a hostess. At the end of that year, she expressed interest in becoming a deckhand. She returned to work as a hostess in 2014. In early June that year, one of AU’s deckhands had to leave, so she was offered the job. According to Sarah, “Little did Tom and Chuck know, they were fulfilling my dream.” She fell in love with working on the water and helping clients enjoy memorable Alaskan fishing trips. She took great pride in doing all aspects of deckhanding. Sarah became a USCG licensed captain this spring and has begun getting her feet wet by taking the helm for a few trips. And in November of 2017, she was promoted to Captain. She is engaged to Kurt Farber, and they share an 8 year-old yellow lab named Kimber.
