Our clients spend 10 hours a day with their captain who is responsible for their safety, their catch, and making it all enjoyable. We’ve enjoyed great continuity at the helm over the years, but 2017 marked the last season for Captain Bo Breuner and Captain Eric Meiland (The Viking)
Bo first fished with AU as a customer in 2007 at age 17. He patiently waited 3 summers for a job opening and became a deckhand in 2010 for Captain David. After 3 years of deck duty, he moved to the helm in 2013. Bo brought a wide-eyed enthusiasm, enormous energy, and a drive to his guiding. You could hear his boat from a mile away when the fishing got hot – excitement is an understatement. Bo is moving on to a new venture and his enthusiasm will be missed.
The Viking began with AU in 2013 as deckhand for Captain Ben Baumann. In 2014 he was on the deck for Captain Bryan (the Cobrah). He took the helm in 2015 and did a great job for 2 seasons. The Viking reason for leaving? Marriage to Annessa Feder (now Meiland) who also worked at AU. They met prior their time at AU, so we’re still sorting out whether this is technically the 5th AU marriage (defined by a couple that first met working for us). Eric will be moving to the Coos Bay, Oregon where Annessa has a job as a pharmacist. His style at the helm was calm, cool, collected. He found a way to be extremely effective without seeming to break a sweat (on the outside anyway). He worked hard at it every minute.
We know both Bo and The Viking will do well in the next phase of their lives. We’re grateful for all they did for AU. They’ll be missed by us and by their regular customers.
