Where were you raised?
I was raised on the Big Island of Hawaii, but also spent a large part of my childhood in the High Sierra’s fishing for trout with my father.
How old were you when you started fishing and what did you spend your youth fishing for?
I started fishing before I can remember, I caught reef fish from the rocky shoreline of the Big Island. As I got older I started to hunt for bigger game fish from the boat as well as from shore. Trolling for tuna, marlin, mahi, ono were a highlight of my youth. My real passion was shoreline fishing for “GT”( Giant Trevally). These large Jacks are known as one of the hardest fighting fish in the world.
History in Sitka?
One of my science teachers in high school offered me a summer job to come up and deckhand in Sitka on his charter boat in 2007. It was a life changing experience to say the least. I was instantly mesmerized by the Tongass National Forest and all of its beauty. No where else that I have ever fished has even come close to Sitka. I deckhanded my way through college at University of Hawaii and when I graduated I decided to get my captain’s license in 2012. I’ve been guiding for two seasons and will have the pleasure of guiding for Angling Unlimited for the 2015 season.
What do you like most about being a captain?
My absolute favorite thing about being a captain is seeing how happy my clients are out on the water. Whether it’s from running around the boat battling a big King, or enjoying the beautiful scenery, I strive to create a lifelong memory every time a guest steps on my boat.
What are your strengths?
My passion for fishing and dedication to my career are my top strengths. I care about sustainable fishing practices in Sitka and believe that education and conservation are very important. I thrive off of exceeding expectations every day both on the water and off.
