Our season is underway! A full house of guests enjoyed night number one of Hook It and Cook It with chef Ludger Szmania. They are out on the water today.
The fishing this May has been unusually good for king numbers. We’ve found them mostly on ocean waters, but we’ve also located kings on the protected inside straits. On Sunday, a cold and rainy day, we took a shakedown cruise on my boat – Albatross. Freshly arrived land crew members Emily Pluskwik and Kenzie Dumm, who flew in from the night before, caught their first Sitka kings and saw Orcas for the first time in their lives. Second-year deckhand David Madden also landed a king. Monday and Tuesday this week have been cloudless and a few more boats went out for the final shakedown. Kings were found in good numbers on the ocean and a few were again landed on the inside water.
The numbers are above average for mid-May, the size is below average with most fish in the low to mid teens.
So glad to see David Madden back and hope he is deck hand again for Uncle Bryan and with us on the Loon. Had a wonderful time with him last year.
