Farewell to the Cobrah

November 13, 20182 CommentsNewsBy Angling Unlimited

Angling Unlimited has been blessed through the years with a long list of great captains, deckhands, and land crew. The list most assuredly includes Captain Bryan Christensen, aka “the Cobrah”. For the past five years he has brought a terrific combination of fishing smarts and people skills to the helm, quickly developing a following of anglers who insisted on fishing with the Cobrah year in and year out. He’ll be greatly missed by all his loyal following and by all of us at AU.
Bryan came to AU in 2006 and deckhanded for captains Phil Carlson and Chris Weiland. After a long hiatus, the call of Sitka brought him back in 2012. He deckhanded for Captain DJ that year and in for Captain Tom in 2013. He took the helm in 2014 and did a stellar job for five years. We understand why he’s moving on and we’ll deeply miss him.

A Note from Captain Cobrah:
I’ve been going back and forth between Hawaii and Alaska for 8 years now. Life’s been good. Each summer I lived the dream of fishing with Angling Unlimited on the majestic waters of Sitka, Alaska. For my winters worked at Kapalua golf academy on Maui getting lots of time on the beach and golf course. It was a great balance going from one paradise to the next. Then last winter on Maui I fell in love with Syrina and things started changing. While separated this last summer I felt a pull to Maui because I was missing her. Since I’ve been back on Maui, things are better than ever.

I feel like it’s time to settle down, so I’ve decided to give up my love of Alaska fishing and working with Angling Unlimited, for my new love and future with Syrina. It hurts saying goodbye to the Angling Unlimited family of clients and employees, but I am excited for what’s to come as I settle into the Maui scene. As far as fishing with Angling Unlimited, I haven’t put my rods and reels away for good. I hope to be back again someday. My love for Alaska and all that Angling Unlimited provides will always be there. I am forever grateful for the opportunities I had as well as the relationships with customers and staff that made up the AU family. I am thankful to have shared so many memorable moments with my faithful clients and two of the best deckhands in the business, Eric Melland and Dave Madden. I will miss you all but am excited with the thoughts of returning someday. If you’re ever in Maui, I hope to hear from you.

Sincerely,
Bryan (the Cobrah) Christensen

Bryan thanks for all great memories fishing with you in Alaska! I know my Dad loved his trips with you and so did I. I hope you have a great life with Syrina. But hey, if I ever get to Kapalua you know I’ll be looking you up to play some golf, which is my passions next to fishing! Take care of yourself! I’m glad everything worked out for you!
