King fishing took an unexpected dip in the second week of June. It wasn’t totally bleak, but it got to be very hit or miss. On any given day, some of the boats would get limits while others struggled to get one. The general pattern is steadily building numbers of kings in mid-June. Thankfully, we’ve had a strong upward swing in king numbers in the third week of the month with most boats getting limits or near limits for the past 5 days.
Alex Macleod, fishing aboard Albatross with yours truly (Capt. Tom) landed a 45-pound king on June 17, the biggest king of our season so far. Most of the kings are in the high-teens to mid-20’s. Halibut and rockfish remain very strong. We had one day of sort of rough seas, otherwise it has been fairly settled on the ocean. We’re hoping the king run continues the trend of the last 5 days and we finish the month strong.
