The Weather is on Our Side
The past week delivered predominantly calm winds and seas for our guests. The worst
we’ve seen is the light northwest chop that comes with high pressure and sun.
Beginning today there’s a turn toward light rain, but nothing stormy. The kings continue
to show in decent but not wide-open numbers – a right place, right time scenario. The
sizes range from low teens to low twenties with the occasional fish pushing 30 pounds.
Halibut fishing is particularly good on the edge of the shelf in 700 feet. Closer in, the
action is less predictable and dogfish sometimes present a big nuisance. This is a new
and unwelcome phenomenon to our waters. Limits of halibut remain the rule; you just
might have to fight through the dogs to get there. GAF halibut
up to 55 inches hit the dock just about daily. We’re seeing a few coho, pinks, and chums
but the faucet has yet to hit a steady flow. Rockfish never let us down. We have light
tackle and top water lures that make that action ever more fun. Blackcod fishing has been good when weather allows us to do it.
