Big Runs and Wild Jumps: August Action Unleashed
The past 6 days have delivered excellent silver action with limits or near limits common. The fish continue to get a bit bigger each day, something expected in late August as they fatten up for their spawning run. The schools have been mobile and weather affected – yesterday’s hot spot may not deliver the same results today, so we go on the search. We’ve seen silvers in the upper teens and lots over ten pounds. Big silver’s make wild jumps and long runs – they are a hoot. Kings continue to mix in with the silvers in ever declining numbers – also expected in the latter part of August.
Halibut fishing remains fast close to where we’re salmon fishing. GAF halibut up to 74 inches have been caught over the past 4 days but you’ve got to put in the time. Most guests have landed their one yelloweye for the year. The season closes for yelloweye on August 25. Lingcod is open through the end of the season with excellent catches of fish in the 20-to-35-inch slot. Black rockfish, aka seabass, always provide fast, fun action.
With so much to catch and pursue inshore, few groups have opted for the offshore blackcod adventure.
