Starting with the weather: We saw a continuation of the recent pattern of unusually cold and damp weather along with choppy but manageable seas for the last week of May. Thankfully, like a flip of the switch, June 1 dawned crystal clear and calm with temperatures expected to reach the mid-70’s on June 2. Hopefully we’re turning the corner into a summer pattern.
King fishing has delivered limits most of the time. They seem to be pretty mobile – good up north for a few days, then good down by the Cape. There’s a little bit of a crap shoot to picking where to start, yet over the course of the day, with a bit of patience, our guests catch their kings.
Fishing for the right size halibut is white hot a wee bit offshore. At least one GAF halibut has been landed nearly every day. Some come from targeting the big flatties, more than a few have been caught on light tackle while rockfishing. Speaking of which, the rockfish never cease to deliver and our guests have landed good numbers of slot (30 to 35 inch) lingcod.. We’ve made only a few offshore trips for blackcod due to the weather and/or lack of interest on the part of the guests. Deep dropping isn’t everyone’s cup of tea and it carves a big chunk of time out of the day. The calm seas expected for the next few days will allow for greater exploration of the deep-deep.
Don’t miss out on the fun! We have some excellent June and July dates available.
