Carly was born in Virginia, MN to Alex and Wanda Pluskwik. Her only sibling Emily worked as a hostess at AU in 2017 and will return in 2018. Growing up, Carly spent lots of family time at their cabin on Myrtle Lake up near Orr, MN. The main activities were fishing and hunting for deer, grouse, and duck. According to Carly, “Our family cabin is easily my favorite place in the world. It’s a year-round cabin so we were able to enjoy all seasons up there.”
Clearly an avid outdoors person, when not at the cabin, Carly heads for the slopes snowboarding. She’s also an avid runner with the goal of running a 1/2 marathon in every state. She attended school at the University of North Dakota, studying electrical engineering and kinesiology. Prior to diving into a “career job”, Carly worked at a fishing lodge on Prince of Wales Island, then she settled into 2 years of working in Minneapolis as an engineer. But, the outdoor adventure bug bit her again last summer. She left engineering, planned a weeklong vacation to visit her sister and booked a ticket to Sitka. Just prior to leaving, she discovered AU needed end-of-season help and she signed on for the remainder of the 2017 campaign. All went extremely well. Plans for 2018 and beyond were put into place.
Over this past winter Carly worked at Giants Ridge Ski Resort in Biwabik, MN where she held a position in Mountain Operation. In her spare time, she trained with and joined the Ski Patrol team. Now, as the Sitka season approaches she is eager and ready. In her words, “Can’t wait to get up there”.
For our 2018 guests, Carly will be the go-to person and smiling face you’ll see in the office. She brings the combination that AU seeks in every employee – high-level job skills in a genuinely helpful, happy package.
