Up Close Look at Marine Wildlife

Search for whales, sea otters, seals, sea lions, puffins, eagles, and other abundant marine wildlife.

Tour St. Lazeria (Bird Island)

See the dramatic cliffs and caves of this volcanic island that is a designated bird sanctuary. Frequent sighting of puffins, murres, murrelets, pigeon gullets, eagles and the occasional showing of peregrine falcons.

Scenic shoreline cruises in remote passes and back bays

Explore the back bays and channels adjacent to Sitka where no cruise ship can travel. Deer are commonly spotted and occasionally you might get to watch a brown bear browsing the beach. By August the creek and river mouths abound with jumping salmon.

Sport Fishing

Sitka waters provide excellent opportunities for salmon, halibut, rockfish, and lingcod. Make a day of fishing or wet a line for an hour or two as part of your day trip. We encourage a sustainable catch and release approach to help protect the abundance of fish in our local waters.

  • Seaworthy, full safety equipped 30 ft boats with weather protected, heated cabins.

Shipping Options

FedEx

Shipping with FedEx does not include insurance for your package, so if it is delayed or lost during transit, there is no compensation. Cost is roughly $4/lb and the package will be delivered directly to your front door. We prefer to ship early in the week, from Monday to Wednesday, using overnight delivery to ensure promptness.

Alaska AirCargo

Shipping with Alaska AirCargo offers a more reliable option for transporting fish. They provide insurance, so you are eligible for reimbursement up to a specified limit if any issues arise during transport. Additionally, they can store the fish in a freezer or cooler at airports equipped with these facilities. The cost is approximately $1/lb depending on the final destination. However, you will need to collect the fish from the airport upon arrival. For more information on Alaska AirCargo destinations and which airports have freezer or cooler facilities, you can visit their website.

What to Bring

Packing List

  • Sunscreen
  • Hat and good sunglasses. (Despite Southeast Alaska’s reputation for rain, the sun can be quite powerful.)
  • Bring ample clothes for dressing in layers and a good pair of gloves.
    • Note – Fleece clothes keep you warm when you’re very active. Insulating clothes like down or synthetic fill work better for standing out in a cool rain with a fishing rod in hand.
  • AU provides raingear and boots

Sea Sickness (Please don’t ignore this)

Nothing can ruin your time on the water more than a case of mal de mar, also known as seasickness. Unless you are 100% certain, like beyond a shadow of a doubt, that you aren’t the slightest bit prone, we suggest you visit your family doctor and get medication. Our experience is that over-the-counter seasickness medications are of marginal value. Prescription medications, particularly scopolamine, work well.

You can get scopolamine in the Transderm Patch. The patch has been around for decades and works quite well for most of our customers. You need a prescription, so consult your doctor.
