Jack McNamee

Jack McNamee was born on October 27, 2002, the son of Chuck and Jenny McNamee, owners
of Angling Unlimited. He’s our first captain born in the 21 st century and in his words, “I have been
coming to Alaska every year since I was born and I would be lost without it.” Jack began part
time deckhanding for his father at age 14, moving to full time at 17. He deckhanded for Captain
Tom at age 19, the same age his father was in 1993 when Chuck began deckhanding for
Captain Tom.

Jack earned his captain’s license in 2023 and began running trips that year. He’s now a full-time
captain with AU. Jack brings a lifetime of experience on the water and a contagious exuberance
to running a boat. He might be as loud and excitable as his father, which is saying something.

This coming offseason, Jack will be student teaching and completing his degree in secondary
science education at Bemidji State University in Minnesota. In his spare time, his hobbies
include hunting and fishing, doing pretty much anything that has to do with being outdoors.
Jack’s career plan is to be a middle or high school science teacher from September to May.
Then he’ll make the journey north and run a boat for AU.

Favorite quote: “There is never a bad time to be on the water, the weather is what can make
things interesting.”
