The ocean went from a dead calm Friday to a breezy bouncy Saturday. Despite the seas kicked up a bit with the wind, the salmon fishing was good for all. On my boat, fishing with Pete, Ryan, and Brent Supplee along with friend Jim Cordell, we had a long and unlucky morning sliding around on anchor, never quite hitting the right spot at the right time, but at 11:30 our fortunes changed and we brought 7 nice kings to the boat in the next hour and a half. We were clearly behind the curve as most of the other AU boats were limited and off searching for halibut. After our 4th quater rally, we headed home on the glassy calm inside channels. It’s amazing how little one can judge the condition of the ocean based on the inside waters. On our ride to the dock, Captain Chuck called on the radio and let us know there was a bear grazing on a beach just ahead of us. We enjoyed watching a big brown bear for 10 minutes – the perfect way to end three good days of fishing.
