Captain Tom’s Fishing Report
King fishing over the past two weeks has been a bit of a roller coaster ride. The number of kings seemed to be building as expected in mid-June only to hit a major hiccup for a couple of days around the 15th. The action then came roaring back for quick limits, but the fish were fairly confined to a few locations which led to fishing with a crowd. Still, the numbers were great and the action fast, until today when if you didn’t get them early and quick, the bite died. This season’s run has been excellent, but also hard to predict.
Our guests have enjoyed excellent halibut fishing including a number of large GAF halibut ranging from 50 to 100 pounds. After a weak spring with blackcod, we’re seeing more of them when we get a chance to go out to the deep, deep. The rockfish always provide a welcome bit of action. We’ve enjoyed a flat ocean for the past five days with a calm forecast going forward. Times are good.
