A challenging patch of weather arrived on the last Sunday in May and shut down deep offshore options for 5 days. Despite the cranky ocean, our guests managed to enjoy some king salmon action. The fish were spread out, a few here a few there, and some in the protected waters of the Shark Hole. The weather limited how far out we could go for halibut but most boats managed to get limits. The big surprise was a 72-inch GAF halibut caught on Skute fishing for rockfish about 5 miles in from the ocean. Landing a halibut that size on a rockfish set up is a real challenge. Slot sized (30 to 35 inch) lingcod were found in good numbers. Rockfish continued their willing ways. Friday and Saturday the weather cleared up and allowed for our boats to get out to the deep waters where they were able to find healthy amounts of black cod and halibut.
