Weather, everybody talks about it, but nobody does anything about it.

Weather can’t be predicted long range, nor can it be guaranteed. For better or worse, it
impacts your fishing trip. I’ve traveled halfway around the world only to have gale force
winds kill the fishing for the entire trip. I’ve also enjoyed adventures with days of nearly
perfect conditions. That’s the way the cookie crumbles. It’s an inherent risk. Although we
at AU can’t change the weather – we have strategies for every wind direction. We
adapt.

We often get asked how many days a season we cancel fishing. The answer surprises
most everyone: Zero. The topography of Southeast Alaska provides sheltered shores
no matter the wind direction. High winds and big seas may deprive us of our preferred
locations, but we make a day of it, catch some fish, and have some fun. The biggest
king I ever put in my boat, a 60 pounder, came when rough ocean weather forced me to
fish a spot that I’d have never considered on a calm day.

Our job is to keep you safe while searching for exciting action. Your job is to pack warm
clothes to wear under the AU provided rain gear and take effective seasick medications.
Don’t fret about the weather. We’d all prefer dry days and light winds, but this is Alaska.
We make the most of what we get, and often that’s surprisingly good.
