Late Season Fishing Report: Sunshine, Northwest Winds, and Strong Silver Runs

As we round the clubhouse turn to the finish line of the season, the big story of late is the weather. After a very wet May, June, July, and early August, we were blessed with nearly 10 days of sunshine and light winds. The sunshine hasn’t quit yet but the Northwest wind often associated with clear weather picked up on the ocean about 3 days ago and hasn’t quit. This wind makes the ocean an uncomfortable place.

Thankfully, our guests are enjoying excellent silver and halibut fishing on protected inside waters. It’s hard to beat the experience of near limits to limits of silvers and halibut on flat calm water under cloudless skies amidst the wilderness of Southeast Alaska. We have plenty of excellent rockfish options on the inside and a few big GAF halibut have been caught there as well.

Prior to the big northwest wind a few boats made it out for blackcod and did well. It takes light winds to do deep drops in 1100 feet of water. The forecast shows the northwest winds continuing for a couple more days. In the meantime, the options off the ocean are expected to continue delivering great results.
