Spencer Chute

Angling Unlimited crew member Spencer Chute smiles as he holds a large salmon

Captain Spencer was raised on the Big Island of Hawaii by John and Christina Chute. His dad
loved fishing, so Spencer grew up on the water, both fresh and salt, watching and learning his
father’s techniques and presentations.

Spencer caught his first King salmon at the tender age of nine on the Feather River in
California. He was side drifting eggs and surrounded by a horde of other anglers. Spencer
remembers yelling at the top of his lungs “Fish On, get out of my way!” as his fish ripped 50
yards upriver. From that moment on he was hooked on king salmon. “Little did I know then that I
would be fortunate enough to enjoy such an amazing career 20 years later watching guests on
my boat yell the exact same thing while running circles around Discovery, as they for the first
time battle a big chrome king. Finding a hot salmon bite all off on our own is something an
angler must experience and savor at least once in life. After that, all you’ll want to do is share
that with others – there are no words to describe it.”

Spencer married AU hostess Allison Godin and they settled in Sitka. Allie works as a nurse
and they both keep busy with two beautiful daughters: Lauren – 2 and Nora – 8 months.
