The past four days have provided excellent silver fishing in the open ocean on the west side of Kruzof Island. The path to glory remains pretty much the same as it has most of the silver season – put in your time, work at it, and by the end of the day, the results look pretty darn good. The silvers continue to get bigger, as is the case in the late season.
On September 1 kings reopened. This is a bit late to find kings, but we managed to bring some back to the dock. Our guests have enjoyed good results for halibut in the same locations that are producing the big silvers. Taking on a 45 or 50-pound halibut on a salmon rod is a real challenge.
Of course, the rockfish continue to oblige and lingcod in the slot, although not a slam dunk, occasionally spice the action.
